NFF – The Nigerian Football Federation is on the news again. This time, its is not about scrambling for position or who will replace the Super Eagles Coach, but on a more demanding and shocking news.
I was not shocked to read from the electronic media today that the Steven Keshi – the Super Eagles head coach, his assistants and other back room staff have not been paid their salaries for 7 months. The reason why I am not surprised is because this development is happening in Nigeria, a country where the absurd and unthinkable happen. It is even more embarrassing when you hear the explanation given by the Nigeria Football Federation chairman, Alhaji Maigari, on why these patriotic Nigerians are being owed. The NFF chairman said that ‘NFF cannot help the situation. We are cash trapped. We have even slashed the bonus of the team from 10 thousand USD to 5 thousand USD. We shall pay then when things improve‘. This explanation was given by a Football Federation Chairman.
Now, the NFF expects Keshi and his crew to put in their best. The NFF staff are all warming up to storm Brazil with their wives, children and concubines for next year’s World Cup. They shuttle around the world with taxpayers money in the name of qualifying matches and meetings. They continue to earn their own monies while the technical crew is languishing away.
NFF – Are the Skillful enough?
The fact remains that we have a bunch of inexperienced folks running football in Nigeria. The organized private sector knows that these guys are crooked and cannot be trusted with any funds. That is why they cannot attract private sponsorship. All the NFF big shots all own mega businesses and have stolen the government dry. Go to their respective states and you will realize what I mean. We have one of them in Abia state.
The NFF executive should all resign if they cannot run football. We cannot continue to hear this story of non salary payment and allowance slashing. We have better men and women of integrity with the needed technical abilities that can run football.
