You will only get Ebola if you come in contact with body fluid of a sick victim. The words to note here are ‘BODY FLUIDS and SICK VICTIMS‘.
Why is this clarification necessary? It is because of the breaking news that the doctor that attended to the sick Liberian diplomat has tested positive to the Ebola virus.
Folks are afraid that the doctor went home, may have had contact with his immediate or extended family and other health care workers and as such may have spread the Ebola virus.
This is not particularly correct. The truth is that the doctor, even though had come in contact with a sick person with Ebola Virus is not himself sick. In other words, the doctor was not contagious immediately after coming in contact with the virus and would not possibly have infected others.
However, once the doctor comes down with illness, that is, once he becomes symptomatic, and then he becomes contagious and will spread the illness.
Remember that all the doctors and health workers at First Consultants Hospital that attended to the Liberian have been on isolation immediately the case was confirmed. So, there is a very slim chance of infection spread.
Proper information and education of the public in this case is important to prevent public panic and to eliminate rumours!
